"Americans bought an estimated 2 million guns in August 2020, making it the fifth-highest month on record, according to an analysis of FBI data.
This seasonally adjusted figure includes about 1.29 million handguns and 710,000 long guns (rifles and shotguns).
That's a 60 percent increase from the previous August.

But no spike compares to the ongoing surge in 2020, which began with the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March.
Sales in California, New York and D.C. were e.g. up +68%, +449% and +71% in August 2020 vs. August 2019."
